Emergency Declaration Terminated By Township of Tiny Mayor

For Immediate Release

Emergency Declaration Terminated by Township of Tiny Mayor

Date: August 5, 2020

(Tiny, Ontario) Mayor George Cornell has terminated the Township of Tiny’s declared state of emergency, effective Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. Deputy Mayor Steffen Walma declared an emergency on March 17, 2020 in accordance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, 1990 as a result of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Ontario.

The health and safety of residents and staff remains the Township’s top priority. Communities in the Simcoe Muskoka region have worked diligently to help flatten the curve, which is one of many contributing factors in the decision to terminate the declared emergency.

Despite the termination of the emergency, the COVID-19 pandemic remains a very real threat to the health and wellbeing of our community. Many temporary COVID-19 restrictions and protocols remain in effect for Tiny residents and visitors. The Township offices remain closed at this time and staff continue to work remotely wherever possible to ensure their ongoing safety and that of the public. Tiny’s Municipal Emergency Control Group will continue to meet regularly and monitor the evolving pandemic situation.

Notwithstanding the challenges the pandemic has presented, Township staff have worked diligently to carry out essential services and develop creative ways of carrying out programming. A recovery framework is well underway and we ask for the public’s continued patience and understanding as we manoeuvre through these unprecedented circumstances.

Mayor Cornell is reminding everyone that “we are not out of the woods yet. Stay vigilant in your efforts to control the spread of COVID-19. Help protect your family, friends and neighbours by practising physical distancing, wearing a face covering, getting tested if you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, and isolating at home if you are sick or exhibiting symptoms.”
